Monacos-in-Motion Beginnings
In 1997, a Monaco Travelers rally was held which was co-hosted
by John & JoAnne Kendall, Homer & Lady Dell Martin and Wade & Linda Myers. It
was called “The Travelers Christmas Lights Caravan”. Each host made
arrangements for Christmas Lights stops along the way – in Nashville, Tennessee,
Ashville, N. C., Lake Lanier, Georgia and Calloway Gardens, Georgia. At a
meeting in Pine Mountain campground (near Calloway Gardens) on November 22,
1997, the formation of an FMCA chapter dedicated to caravanning was discussed.
The name for the chapter was suggested by Linda Utz. Les Alexander suggested
that, to avoid any regional association, the chapter be organized as an
international chapter. The people who were on the caravan in addition to the
co-hosts were: Les & Wilma Jean Alexander, Jerry & Allene Capley, Neal Roselle
and Marilyn Cunningham, Harvey & Sherrill Rothman, Jimmy & Ria Sabia, Ollie &
Carol Strong, and Charlie & Linda Utz.
